What am I doing in Ghana?
Starting September 2025, I'm staying with my lovely host family in Agona Swedru for a year. Here in Swedru, my workmate Fabian and I visit the Swedru School of Business where we assist during ICT lessons and other projects. We also take the opportunity to learn more about life in Ghana.
What is weltwärts?
The weltwärts programme enables young adults from Germany to participate in voluntary service in the Global South. A weltwärts volunteer service doesn't provide development aids, but rather intends to promote cultural exchange and social engagement. The weltwärts programme is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
About weltwärts What is the ijgd?
The Internationale Jugendgemeinschaftsdienste (ijgd) is an independent, non-profit organisation that offers voluntary services for young adults. It acts as my sending organisation by organising my voluntary year and working with the local partner organisation.
About ijgd How much does a weltwärts volunteer year cost?
One year of weltwärts voluntary service costs 12,000 €, of which 75% is covered by the BMZ. This includes expenses for seminars, vaccines, insurance, flights, housing, meals and pocket money.
